Pawtocol was built for pets, by pet parents. From the start, the goal has been simple: use the world’s best technology to improve the lives of pets and pet parents everywhere. But that begs the question, if you fall into one of those categories, what exactly does that mean for you?

First off, Pawtocol is an online economy, which means it’s a place where goods and services are changing hands for the betterment of both buyer and seller, globally and digitally. Now imagine your vet, your dog walker, your local kibble mongerer, a pet nutrition researcher, and that guy at the dog park you address as “buddy” because you can only remember his dog’s name, all present in the same borderless, trusted online community. Doing things with and for your pet is just simply easier when everyone’s together on Pawtocol. Here’s how:

  • Our smart contracts will simplify P2P services like dog walking.
  • Our data capabilities will make vet visits a little less stressful and a lot more productive.
  • Our verifiable, crowd-sourced shopping experience will take the uncertainty out of purchasing.
Pawtocol dogs live healthier and happier lives.

Pet ownership is holistically rewarding. Pets have been shown to lower blood pressure and cortisol levels (once they stop chewing designer purses or having accidents on the rug). Pets protect those brave humans who volunteer to protect us by running towards the gunfire, and not away from it. Pets can sniff out seizures before they happen and they’re even learning to identify cancer. Pets are generating untold value in our lives and it’s time we throw them a bone. It’s called Universal Pet Income.

Pet parents can earn Universal Pet Income by sharing their pet’s data with veterinarians, retailers, manufacturers or researchers who can then use that data to improve their operations. If Simba and Elton John are queuing up “The Circle of Life” in your mind, you see the same thing we do. Anonymously sharing data amongst each other in an economy is good; it helps the entire system to innovate and flourish. When a researcher uses the data that you’ve shared or a recall is caught sooner, the community benefits. On the other hand, buying and selling data for profit without involving the individuals that own it is bad; it fuels extreme power imbalances and simply isn’t fair.

With all the good that pets bring to our lives, one of Pawtocol’s top priorities is to help pets receive the best possible medical services. Here’s just a few examples of what we’re doing:

  • We’ll be making your vet visits easier thanks to our partnership with EZ Vet, which is bringing ultra-convenient veterinary care directly to your neighborhood
  • We’ll be making your vet visits more productive thanks to our in-app consolidated medical history, the Universal Pet Record, allowing your vet to spend more time with your pet and less time thumbing through years of paperwork.
  • We’ll be using cutting edge Artificial Intelligence technologies to help your vet identify the best available treatments and to make sure parent’s stick with prescribed regimens.
Streamlined vet visits benefit pet parents, vets and of course, the pets.

Medical care is only one of the ways we will work to keep our pets around longer, and there’s a reason we’re still quoting Mr Franklin 200 years later: “an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.”

Food safety is a growing concern for pet parents as new products with unknown supply chains flood the market to meet the increasing demands of the growing base of pet owners. The troublingly persistent trickle of recalls in the news is evidence that simply reading the label isn’t enough anymore.

Pawtocol will equip pet parents with an industry-first suite of tools to understand and monitor the trustworthiness of the products they’re giving to their pets. Here’s how:

  • It all starts with the Blockchain dog tag. It serves as your pet’s unique ID on the platform and the entry point for all of Pawtocol’s unique services and features.
  • The blockchain dog tag also comes to the rescue in every pet parent’s worst nightmare: a lost pet. It can even be used to unlock a reward for the good samaritan that helps your pet return home.
  • Since all products and services in the ecosystem will be associated with 100% verified, unbiased, crowdsourced reviews, you’ll know exactly what you’re buying
  • Pawtocol is also developing a proprietary spectral photometer (Bill Nye might say that it’s an instrument that uses light to tell us about the makeup of something). Pet parents can use this to check food for mold or treats for harmful compounds and instantly notify retailers, manufacturers, and pet parents.
Checking in with Pawtocol is easy.

As pet parents, our team is downright drooling over all of the ways the platform will benefit pets and their parents. As technologists, however, the thing we’re most proud of is the privacy everyone will enjoy while doing it. The advent of blockchain technology means that we don’t have to choose between privacy and community. We can have our Milkbone and eat it too. Pet parents will be able to choose exactly who can see their data and they’ll never have to reveal identifying information in order to use these features. How exactly we pull this off will make you chase your tail, so we’ll save that discussion for another time.
